Peptide Reconstitution & Storage Guide
This guide covers how to reconstitute lyophilized (freeze-dried) research peptides with bacteriostatic water, how to calculate solution concentrations, and how to store peptides so they stay stable for laboratory work. It applies to the research compounds in the Kinetix Peptides catalogue.

How to reconstitute a research peptide
- Let the vial reach room temperature. If the vial was refrigerated or frozen, allow it to warm up sealed before opening. This prevents condensation from forming inside the vial.
- Prepare bacteriostatic water. Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) is the standard solvent for multi-use research solutions because it inhibits bacterial growth after the vial is opened. We carry it in 10 ml, 15 ml, and 30 ml vials.
- Add the water slowly. Clean both stoppers with an alcohol swab. Transfer the measured amount of bacteriostatic water using sterile laboratory technique and let it run gently down the inside wall of the vial — never spray it directly onto the peptide powder, which can damage fragile peptide bonds.
- Let it dissolve — don't shake. Swirl the vial gently or roll it between your fingers. Vigorous shaking can shear the peptide. Most peptides dissolve fully within a few minutes; a clear solution indicates a successful reconstitution.
- Label and refrigerate. Mark the vial with the compound, concentration, and date, then store it according to the compound documentation and the storage section below.
Concentration ratio table
The concentration of your solution depends only on two things: how much peptide is in the vial and how much bacteriostatic water you add. Common combinations:
| Peptide amount | Bacteriostatic water | Concentration | Per 0.1 ml |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 mg | 1 ml | 5 mg/ml | 0.5 mg |
| 5 mg | 2 ml | 2.5 mg/ml | 0.25 mg |
| 10 mg | 1 ml | 10 mg/ml | 1 mg |
| 10 mg | 2 ml | 5 mg/ml | 0.5 mg |
| 20 mg | 2 ml | 10 mg/ml | 1 mg |

Peptide storage best practices
| State | Room temperature | Refrigerated | Frozen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lyophilized (powder), unopened | Short-term only, protected from light | 2–8 °C — follow compound documentation | −20 °C — only when product documentation supports it |
| Reconstituted in bacteriostatic water | Not recommended | 2–8 °C — follow compound documentation and sterile handling limits | Not recommended unless product documentation supports it |
- Protect from light. UV exposure degrades peptides. Store vials in their packaging or an opaque container.
- Avoid temperature swings. Repeated warming and cooling may affect research material stability. Keep reconstituted vials within the storage conditions specified for the compound.
- Keep everything sterile. Swab stoppers with alcohol before handling and follow sterile laboratory technique for all transfers.
- Watch the solution. Cloudiness, particles, or discoloration are signs of degradation or contamination — discard the vial for research integrity.
